Now that my 2025 reading goal has been reached, I can tackle this huge book. It caught my interest quickly.

The women in this story are allowed no freedom; they are totally under the control of their husbands. It’s awful to even hear about such lives.

What a surprise! This ordinary-looking book is beautifully written, full of lovely vocabulary. The profanity is appropriate for the characters, which caused it to be banned in some schools.

I love finding the source of the book title in the narrative.

New high - or low - in Georgie’s naïveté.

Kit’s marriage went wrong, but the details are slowly revealed in flashbacks and memory. Excellent, smooth use of this technique.
