So interesting, the life of three girls growing up in Boston beginning in the years before WWI. Their parents were Jewish immigrants from Hungary who had difficulty accepting the American ways of life.

A memoir, telling the story of a little girl devastated by her parents’ divorce and her mother’s failure to care for her and her little brother. The grandfather’s beekeeping provides a needed diversion - and fascinating detail.

Interesting and informative story of ancient medicine and the growth of anatomical knowledge. A good read-aloud as George and I drive to SC.

The story is set in the 1500’s about a woman who is a legend in Irish history. It rotates through three narratives: the maiden, Grace as a child; the mother, Grace at age 35; and the matriarch, Grace in her 50’s. One reviewer of this book suggested re-reading the story in chronological order. I’d like to do that, too. Grace is a force of nature!

I love a story that begins with several narrative threads that are woven together in a n unexpected way. Can’t wait to see how it ends!

Interesting premise about women in a family who inherit the ability to see the dead souls who haven’t made it to the next place. In other chapters, Annalise is a German woman fleeing to America as well as an abusive husband, assuming the identity of her friend killed in a car wreck.

Another childhood classic that I missed - and published in 1955, the year I was born.

Omigosh! How could I possibly have missed Helene Hanff and this epistolary book - not a novel since it is composed of letters between Hanff and Frank Doel, as well as others connected with the Marks & Company bookshop in London.

This will be a good one! Nothing like a feisty girl ahead of her time.

A children’s classic: delightful since 1905.

I missed this children’s classic story, but it’s never too late to enjoy it. It has a lasting appeal with three siblings, adventures, and a mystery.

The death of the grandmother who raised her brings Aliet back to the small town and run-down house where she grew up. As the daughter of a Native American woman who died in childbirth and an unknown father, her questions about her parents are unanswered.

You know the apprehension you feel when things are going too well for your tragic main character? I can see it coming, I know what it is and who is behind it. Yet here we go … no stopping now!

A remote flower farm and three men who work there together welcome the young woman who is trying to disappear and escape her own traumatic past. As they get to know each other and do the physical work required on the farm, the pain of healing begins. One realizes Leigh must also work through her pain rather than suppress it.

If you are depressed, this book is probably not for you at this time. However, if you care about or hope to understand someone who experiences depression, this book can provide insight. It gives examples of what “I can’t get out of my head”feels like - at least, for me.

I’m somewhat leery of this book. It’s beautiful and colorful, but it promises ugly characters and anecdotes. If it turns physically abusive or too stressful, I give myself permission in advance to stop.

An Amish family must deal with their only daughter “shunned” and ousted from their community because of a pregnancy out of wedlock and her refusal to name the father. Years later, she has an 18-pound baby whose birth causes her death.

A female doctor from Salerno, Italy, is sent to England to examine the bodies of murdered children in order to assist an investigator in identifying their killer. The setting is in medieval times, full of superstition and ignorance about women, medicine, and death.

Excellent background information on the epic poem and characters.
