i hate this book's insistence on killing berg being Wrong and Bad and that rosie can't do it, particularly after she had a prime opportunity to kill him in the previous book and she didn't take it. they don't have another option!!! god i hate it when authors go out of their way to ensure that their protagonists don't kill anyone.

also rachel being an almost unheimlich figure...her presence bringing forth previously-unknown familial tensions and secrets into the open. how she's such a cipher, and outside of both good AND bad moms in fiction.

something something everyone outside of bel and her immediate family automatically assumes that the restoration of the nuclear family is a positive in bel's life when it definitely isn't/bel wanting her mom to go away again so everything can return to normal, when normal for her is her mom's presence-through-absence, the life bel & her dad built AROUND rachel, not with her.
