Definitely not my favorite of Straub’s books. Going to finish but it’s lacking a certain cohesion and depth of characters and relationships that I expect from her work. It reads like she wants to try writing a romance but still wanted a twist that made it not quite romance, but it just feels flat. There are also way too many characters.

Wasn’t exactly prepared for the frequent flinging about of racial slurs…
