Michele Gardiner is starting Driving Over Lemons: An Optimist in Andalucía
Oh my, I was hoping for a mental trip away, some fun experiences, but got a dry tale of home renovation. No humor. No escape. Just recounting of monotonous meals (same meal every day), crappy wine served from a plastic bottle... I halted at the pig killing tales.

Bore + gore = No reason to continue.

I'm enjoying this story, so, curious about the author, I read about him and learned he was one of the original drummers with the band Genesis. Interesting.

Such dark stories, I feel like I need to take a shower. So far, only the Jackie Martling story made me smile.

Fascinating. I wish there was research to confirm stories and follow up. But, still, I devoured this in one night.

I stayed up until 1 am reading this. As an open-minded human who has a fascination in physics, para-physics, our universe, Nikola Tesla's (and others) ideas on our connection to the universe, as well as research by Dr. Ian Stevenson--I am devouring this book.

A neighbor left it in our community little library, just after I had a conversation with my mom on her own past-life regression through hypnosis.

Kismet?

One reason I enjoy autobiographies/memoir: I get to read about what inspired people to do what they do and how they evolved. Now that Steve Martin's book is getting to how he arrived at his original way of doing comedy, I'm enjoying this more.

Michele Gardiner is starting The Table Comes First: Family, France, and the Meaning of Food
I chose this book because I heard the author on The Moth storytelling series and found him amusing and entertaining. Plus, I loved his passion for food. This book is not amusing. It's dry and a bit hoity-toity. I won't be finishing this. Boring.

Ali Wong isn't only funny, but thoughtful. She shares some interesting experiences she's learned from: world travel, cultural differences, insight into cultures, i.e., Vietnamese vs. American, for one; I related to a point she made about why there are fewer women in comedy. From my own experience in a male-dominated field, I think her thought has some weight.

Hmm...the first two stories aren't very risky. I would think the first two would be more interesting to keep me in the book.

Well, so far this is not fun. It's like being trapped some of the whiners I know. I've moved on to another book.

I just ordered Flea's "Acid for the Children." Can't wait to read it. Flea (Michael Balzary) is a very thoughtful man. He's my client (I build recording equipment) and have learned about his interests in esoteric jazz, the environment and children's charities. He has a music school my daughter used to attend, and every year he holds fundraisers so that children who can't afford music lessons can attend his school.

Michele Gardiner is starting Why Is My Mother Getting a Tattoo?: And Other Questions I Wish I Never Had to Ask
I've liked Jancee since reading her book, "Enough About Me..." And while this book doesn't involve as much interest as working at Rolling Stone, interviewing celebrities, etc., it's refreshing to read someone who adores their family. And her writing is humorous.

I'm glad I stopped reading another tale of abuse in memoir for this book.

Nope. I'm not going to continue. I'm done with sad childhoods, unless the writer can pull a Sedaris and find the humor, it does me no good to torture myself with another abusive tale.

Preston Sturges had a series of fascinating experiences. I only wish those experiences were woven into more of a story form worthy of the subject's storytelling abilities.

I'm struggling to finish this. As fascinating a life as Preston Sturges had, it's too bad that such a wonderful storyteller's life is lacking good storytelling. It's one experience after another, more like a litany of life moments stitched together. It's exhausting, But I suppose that's because his family took his journal entries and were not storytellers themselves.
