Chilling. Loving it. What's striking to me is that the quality of writing is so simple it feels below average. Where I once considered it off-putting, now it's easy to see it's a perfect choice as it both enhances the concepts – all brilliant from Roman naming to colony-empire relationships, the allegories are genius, the world building is a masterpiece – and makes it readable for young people and non-readers. Genius

My favourite part about this series is the white US readers being grossed out by the violence, abuse, and disturbing sexual undertones of this story. Y'all didn't grow up with European folklore fairytales and it shows. This is Grimm at 3% battery. The imperial core was bred on horror and violence. And it splilled out through stories before it turned real through colonialism :)

Going crazy over the age difference but besides that enjoying it like the good Bella&Edward: Origins it is.
Also. Being thirty at your first read of Jane Eyre brings a certain 'i would eat this miserable man over breakfast twice without needing a napkin' vibe to the function.

Almost halfway in, and it's still boring, superficial and any character who's not white is still a dull stereotype based on their nationality. Patiently waiting for it to get better

I'm halfway through and this settler's graphic memoir of moving to Palestine managed to write the word "Palestine/Palestinian" twice: once as an adjective of "Palestinian terrorist", and once as in Israeli-Palestinian.
