I really wanted to like this, maybe I’m missing something, it felt like this was a story composed of various traumas but the characters had no dimensions past these horrors and the story thus felt like a flat horror story with no substance. Clearly from the reviews I read I am going against public sentiment.

This was a good read, I found a bit of the very detailed communist infighting to be a bit confusing because I have very little context which did make the book feel a little like one of those books that would have been better read closer to when it was published as it would have made more sense probably.
Very good writing and worth a read particularly if you are going to visit any of the three cities

This book was incredibly entertaining and married the traditional story telling of Arabian nights with a modern story overal creating a good yet thoughtful read!

I don't generally write reviews but this book was truly a picture of a world told in such a humanistic manner that it moved me to write a review, for god sakes read this!
