Disappointed already. Authors will say something like, “Research suggests…” but without backing it up. What research? I get that this isn’t an academic source, but it would still have been useful. Instead it feels very “trust me.” There’s no sources page or suggested further reading, which makes it seem more based on feelings than anything else.

Sometimes these books are weird. “Her gray eyes were the same color as the ocean.” …you mean her gray eyes are blue?

What a bizarre comparison. Not “the same colour as the sea after a storm” or “as the ocean on a cloudy day” or something else that would call up a pale blue colour. “The colour of the ocean,” which, as everyone knows, is gray?

“The gods move with the heart of the West.” So of course they’re in the greatest nation in the world, the US of A. /s

I get that the author wanted to write a story about America and so has to explain why the Greek gods and associated mythology are there as opposed to being in, yknow, Greece, but I do heartily wish he went with something less… self-congratulatory.

Percy takes Latin in school, and that’s great. But why does his Latin class ask questions about Greek mythology and have him memorizing Greek names and spellings for exams? That is a different language. No wonder the poor boy’s so confused.

What is it with all of these audiobooks with pronunciation mistakes? It's KAN-uh-pay, not ka-NAH-pay.

On the one hand, the romances give me second hand embarrassment. On the other, it’s a good audiobook for the gym.

Shakespeare would have loved the Carp of Misery. 😂

I don’t want to argue with Richard Ayoade, but it would be super easy to make tiny aeroplane-shaped soap. The molds are easy to find, easier now than in 2001, I would imagine, but I don’t particularly recall, as I was ten.
