Effie just really isn't endearing as a main character. It realistic, I guess, to be so scared of showing anger to her employers and to always daydreams about wearing pretty dresses and going to balls for someone with her background...but those traits don't make an interesting main character. It's getting a little annoying.

Bloody hell. Does EVERY male authority figure has to be bigots? And why does she still think walking into potential danger WITHOUT ANY PLANS other than talking and assuming people will help/trust them? That hadn't worked the first hundredth times she tried! Arghhhh

How is she still so naive after all the things she's been through?? How is Nathaniel so fucking unguarded against sorcerers when he grew up around them, knowing what they're capable of? I can get over the fact that Elizabeth is dumb because she hasn't had much experience with sorcery, but Nathaniel? And Silas??? A demon so notorious and fearsome and old...didn't know the enemies were setting a trap or spying on them?
