A thought occurred to me: reading Murakami is like reading the slow parts of an anime. Everything is gently detailed and languid. His esoteric plot points wouldn't work as well if he doesn't spend time building the world around his characters.

I'm really falling in love with Stephenson's characters at this point, especially Lawrence. Based off the subject matter, I wasn't sure this was the book for me. I'm glad I stuck with it however, it's becoming a very rewarding read.
