About a third into reading this and none of the emotional beats have landed so far.

It wasn't that interesting until about a quarter through when it came up that Bernadette used to be an architect. Her husband started talking about how she always criticized the 5-way intersections and told him about the 6 urban grid systems in the city and I just about lost it, because that's such an architect thing to do. You can't not notice these things in a city.

Been reading for 3 hours. Am only 18% in. So far, the action is ridiculously slow. There's just so much filler! I'm all for character development, but if 150 pages have passed and nothing exciting is happening, that means the book has really poor editing. Kill the damned filler and get to the point.

I love how it approaches stories from a quality, not a quantity POV.
