The FMC is an idiot. Also so is whatever remains of their government from the sound of things. Also the writer, because she took the time to describe how our MC is all bone and charred flesh post-fire but doesn't seem to have taken 5 minutes to consider that a little lighter fluid isn't sufficient to cause the sort of damage she's describing unless Pestilence's body is flammable by nature, which seems highly unlikely

This book makes no sense. Supposedly she stays behind to give them time to escape and yet it's days/weeks before Pestilence actually shows? I get tech is largely dead but they don't have trackers or messengers who can watch Pestilence from a distance and warn cities to evacuate in advance? Dude's been wandering around for months and no one thought to try attacking until this girl with a shotgun? Questions all around

Officially the best line in the book: "...for a second I wonder how we graduated from handshakes to motorboating in the space of a few traumatic hours."

Sheesh. All that build-up then she kills him virtually immediately with a single stab wound? I mean, very on brand for a final girl sure. But not exactly realistic given she's stated multiple times she doesn't have much upper body strength etc. And not like she has experience. She didn't even pull the knife out which means the bleeding is also limited. I think that could have been better orchestrated.

Mm, not the biggest fan of our antagonists depiction. Bit of a wet noodle. And not a cute danger noodle type of noodle, just limp and disappointing noodle.

A bit "meh" as a book, but I think this could be a reasonably entertaining movie as long as they maintained that rom-com horror blend successfully. Ironically, given the shared name, I have been intermittently reminded of the delightful Heart Eyes horror film on Netflix as I read.

Jamie is honestly a bit annoying. She's very in her head while also ignoring evidence and jumping to conclusions. She specifically noted that John's blood was oddly sweet smelling earlier despite every other scene with blood being described as smelling like iron. She never actually saw his body. Like girl. This whole thin was clearly planned and you love movies - never occurred to you it was a feint?

Big whoop, so Wes is a cop. So what? The whole idea of the speed date event was that no one was supposed to say what they do for work and now that his job is revealed he's being tied to the stake and they're lighting matches. He didn't lie, idiots, any more than the rest of you who haven't said anything about YOUR jobs. Such an overreaction. This is why i hate people. Just looking for someone to blame.

Why the hell is Davi so incapable of just having a conversation with Amitsugu?? She expects him to just know that she wanted sex and nothing else without ever actually talking to him about it. She thinks if she just avoids the matter and punts him off then sleeping with him when it suits her is sufficient? Poor guy. I think author meant for this to be funny? It's not. I think it's indicative of a pretty shitty person

I'm honestly so irritated but how trash this has been I can't stop thinking about it. Why are people like this when there's going to be flesh involved? Romance, however unusual or spicy or dark, can be done well. But people are just freaking lazy. I don't know how this got a rating of 4.04, because it definitely doesn't deserve it. What a dang tease. Not giving up yet, but incredibly frustrated by the shitty writing.

Rather than the trash it was (literally he says he was looking forward to seeing her, she asks for info on a case, and he jumps straight to " Tell me, are you also this direct when you fuck?" and this supposedly stone cold lady is blushing and squirming the whole damn time). After an INTELLIGENT, INTRIGUING, NON-TRASH conversation, she starts to find herself falling under his sway and re-assessing life or whatever

Then, since she was there anyway for another case, she decided to sit in on his court hearing (or was asked) and his fearlessness and killing of the guard made her a little more intrigued but still not much outside the standard reaction anyone else might have had. THEN, when he demands to see her, she meets him face to face and in a position to talk for the first time. And the dialogue is interesting and intelligent

I was hoping for a Joker and Harley or Will and Hannibal sort of set-up, but it's just a shitty (romance can be very well done, this is not that!!) romance with the "story" just there as an excuse for horny thoughts. What WOULD have made more sense was for her to have only the vaguest initial professional curiosity since he was local, turned himself in, and supposedly has this long list of kills.

Literally nothing to build a baseline interest on, much less her basically creaming her pants at the thought of him. We are told how cool and collected and calm and smart she is and how she's the best profiler and blah blah blah but then her actual story and how she acts do nothing but declare those descriptions false. It's very frustrating from page 1. Then they actually do talking and it's the stupidest dialogue.

I keep hoping I'll get far enough into this story that it gets interesting and I forgive how awful the writing is. The premise sounded so interesting, but the execution is awful. The intelligent, calm, level-headed FMC fell in insta-love with nothing but the headshot of a killer MMC. Like his obsession I can understand, but hers has no fucking foundation. Like they've never interacted. There are no interviews

Surprise, surprise. When the monster was his friend they had an actual friendship where they played and did things and talked (after a fashion), then they instant the monster turns out to be a hot redhead (who can talk!) that's all lost. All they do is have sex and he learns nothing more about her and all the friendship side of things is lost. Typical, really.

Also why is here hair already in a ponytail when she shifts even though her clothing etc all stay the same as before? And why is her fur brown but her hair is red? I am feeling really let down all around by this reveal to be honest. I hope it improves on itself otherwise I may just drop it. It went from interesting and unique to just another shifter romance nonsense. What a disappointment.

Arcady is so annoying. She's selfish and hypocritical. I cannot stand hypocrites. I can mostly ignore it but then they go into another long stretch where she sits there and whines and feels self-righteously upset that someone doesn't do x thing. E.g. share their deepest secrets. Which, hey, if she had done that and they didn't reciprocate or outright lied, sure, I could get being upset. But that's not that case. Urgh

I'm trying really hard to at least push until the first kiss but FML the story itself is so bad. The FBI agents are idiots. The criminals are caricatures. The writing feels so subpar, in a way that a poor translation cannot excuse, that I am utterly baffled how it has gotten licensed and such a high rating. Would not recommend. Just read some Hannibal fanfic instead to feed your fix-much better writing there.

FBI continues to be super dumb and do literally none of the things they should do. Why is this highly rated? Is it because there's so little to choose from in this category? Ridiculous

Not sure how long I'll read this for if it doesn't improve. Writer is displaying a depressing tendency to dumb down characters to make a main character seem more intelligent. Or maybe for the writer these really are amazing deductions. Shouldn't be, since my brain reached the conclusions the instant I read the paragraph on the crime and these are supposedly experienced FBI agents and profilers. So frustrating. UGH
