I read this, and Julie Smith's others in the 1980s when she, Sue Grafton, Edna Buchanan, and the other Sisters of Crime made their debut.As it has been so many years, I am rereading as if it was new.

I forgot how much I liked Rebecca. She is a liberal woman with some conservative feelings. She is forthright, clever and even funny. This is a fun romp of the past.

I wanted a book based in the Yukon. But am struggling with the author's writing.

Definitions where the words are universal not geographic. Definitions that are wrong bib and stake

2. Beating a dead horse of how much Brooks is an Whole
3. Switching back and forth on nicknames and given names and going on and on on said names
There is a way a writer can convey how a speaker is feeling without an explanation

I am cringing over the mans painting metaphors and metaphors in general. No one, but no one uses metaphors as frequently as these detectives

I found some of the dialogue choppy in the beginning.

The author's habit of her characters' explaining a pun is a pun is irritating. The Reader is not stupid & it detracts from the dialogue. If the pun is suppose to demand a reaction, let there be a reaction.

One of the characters calls his partner their Department nickname - then it is reiterated he too uses the nickname. Well, Duh, a needless addition.

Anyone who reads this, please, please do not compare it with her Series.
I have been a fan of Faye Keller man since the first Runs and Decker book. I have read a few of her Stand Alone - Quality of Mercy is stunning.
But, although there are some intriguing and clever ideas, this one reads like a teen angst book.
Sadly, this was a disappointment

I got this in a Giveaway. Did not realize it was #6 before obliging a readong and review. I like it enough to read the previous 5 in the series.

I may get confused with Tarquin Hall's cultural references within his prose. But it is sentences like this that keep me reading :

Puri had to get out of the car across from SDA Main Market and dodge a maelstrom of vehicles swarming along the road like blood cells and viruses locked in battle.

It was awhile since I read #1. I sorta needed a refresher on the series terminoligy. I would have liked a glossery.
But, I am enjoying #2.

There is no way I am going to be able to finish it. The editting is horredous and the grammar embarrassing

Gaslight Gunslinger begins with our hero and his "war horse" Blue inside an Iron Horse arriving in San Francisco about 12 years after the civil war.
Immediately, he encounters waterfront Chinese thugs and the cliche descriptions begin. They are wonderfully fun but a bit cringe worthy. At least there was not a dark and stormy night.... yet.
Matthew and horse Blue already intrigue me....

Wonderful old prose

I am not quite sure I could consider this gem as a "murder mystery". It is still a charming book so far that begins with an idenity misunderstanding and continues with some misadventures.

So far, the grammar is abysmal and writing sketchy. The plot, Place (Kazakhstan) characters seem interesting enough to carry on.

It reads like a Romance novel .I am NOT a fan of romance, esp overly-written. Just checked GR Bio: "she began writing suspense with a passionate twist" NO REALLY?

"The determination, the smoky-husky voice, and the indigo mystery of her eyes were the only links Archer could see between the teenager of his memories and the shocky, exhausted woman who was sitting at the table, swaying like grass in a long slow wind."

These are multiple short short stories. Unfortunately, there is little or no reference to Tasmania and so far they read like a high schoolers mediocre attempt to creative writing. It is almost painful.

So far, this plot is seriously creepy. No disturbing. It is most definitely not for the faint of heart.

So far, I am enjoying the authors's wonderful sense of Place. However, there are characters within the plot that are incredibly racist towards foreigners (Italian) and specifically the native Aborigines. This makes me very uncomfortable

I am having a little trouble understanding who or what Tug, Anthroplana and Evangeline are. Is Tug an Anthroplana? Is Evangeline a sentient ship?

I am determined to finish some of my Series books. I currently have Books #9, #10 #11.
