What I miss most is not any of the things I expected. It’s having someone to talk to about our children. The insights with which they blow my mind and the ways they change frequently and without mercy. I need her to help me process and deliberate and delight in …someone who understands not just the talent or cleverness of our children, but the wisdom the immensity of feeling they hold within.

She will see one day. Loving a place is the same as having a child. They are both too much an act of hope, of defiance. And those are a fool’s weapons.

Peace is a choice we make in each movement and all we can do as educators is to plant seeds of awareness and peace. We don’t know if they will ever bloom. But once you begin practicing mindfulness you will see how it begins to infuse your day.

Pg 125 “I wonder if maybe all you do is meet people and lose them and your smile just fades the further you go because you have to carry the space they leave.”

Pg18 when I asked my 👥 4th grade teacher how long a paper had to be she said “like a skirt long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to keep it interesting”.

It was true. This was who she was. It was like her body was an ocean, and these feelings would always come and go like the tights. The task was not to let herself be pulled away by one of the currents. The task was to accept that her insides would feel violent and tumultuous at times and to be OK with that to surrender

How much she wanted to be better to do things differently, but change didn’t happen with a single recognition a single step in the right direction. It was messy courage, calm, and gone steps taken forward then back it was bravery laced with fear.

Reveal a sign of weakness in front of others and tomorrow all the newspapers will talk only of your decline.

But everyone gets lonely sometimes and whenever that happens, I buy a plane ticket and go to the airport and I don’t know I don’t feel lonely anymore because no matter what happens all those people different, they’re all just trying to get somewhere to reach someone.
