My goodness this is really bad. Gene Wolfe has an extensive vocabulary, but is a terrible story teller and terrible misogynist. It's almost unreadable. There is almost no plot or political commentary. It's just a collection of non-sequitor scenes and empty characters in an internally inconsistent and incoherent world. How this collection was rated the second best fantasy series since Lord of the Rings baffles me.

Started this because I just have SO MUCH TIME for another 1,000 page scifi book ugh someone stop me 🙄😒😮‍💨

This may actually be the worst book I have ever read. On audiobook even. Still going to finish it.

This guy doesn't understand Marx at all

Chapter 15 summarized - "machinery in itself shortens the hours of labour, but when employed by capital it lengthens them; in itself it lightens labour, when employed by capital it heightens its intensity; in iteself it is a victory of man over the forces of nature, under capital it makes man the slave of those forces; in itself it increases the wealth of the producers, under capital it makes them into paupers..."

Alright now we got Productivity, Rates of Exploitation, Rates of Profit. I'm beginning to see a path forward.
