Two things that significantly improved this book during its third act:
1) The romantic resolution being different than I expected, in a way that feels brimming with literary commentary. This actually impressed me.
2) A cameo from the legion of the dead, because Dragon Age dwarves are the best <3

The Stolen Throne: Female knights are rare enough that the green knight being female was a surprise, and people suspected Rowan promoted her direct superior simply for being a woman.

i would like to disagree with the supposition that naruto counts as historical fiction

One of the many brilliances of this book is how McCulloch truly addresses all audiences: for the internet-skeptic, long paragraphs gently explaining the ways internet language evolved as purely as any other variety; for the more savvy, references and memes and subtle self-demonstrating language games sprinkled into the explanatory tone. It's enjoyable (and informative!) on so many levels.
