I dunno. I'm just not vibing with these characters or this world.

I just can't get into this Gilmore Girl-esque world where every character is a CHARACTER.

Oh, Jax has done a good job at showing what an absolute P.O.S. Justin was in high school. I loathe him. He may not be redeemable.

I am so confused by this author's storytelling. One minute, I'm irritated because he skips a layup of a romantic scene that I wanted to see. The next, I am emotionally devastated by the line "You're buying the small cereal, Luke."

What a nothing burger this Boston trip turned out to be. The characters were set up perfectly for a romance novel worthy moment of support and connection for each other's professional goals at this conference and the author just... faded to black? I mean, I can live without a sex scene, but Luke not figuring out a way to skip a gym or video session in order to hear his man present? Unforgivable.

Okay, Wrench just has an economical way of writing. Now that I have relaxed into it a bit, I'm kind of into it.

Oh, no. I am less than a handful of pages into this book, and there's already been two instances where the author has forgotten a word that should be in the sentence. I go to his profile expecting to find that he's an amateur, but nope - his whole bio highlights his vast experience as an academic and published writer. 😬

I mean, as a historian, there's no way in hell Eddie would have risked the original journal by taking it to the island. But I am going to suspend my professional disbelief for the sake of fun. 😆

For the love of all that is holy, can someone explain to me WHY this book is 600 pages?! There isn't enough story to fill 600 pages, so I felt like I did a LOT of reading, but the characters and their relationship development never seemed to keep pace. I'm still reading, but I am sorely let down by this follow up to Pucking Around (which was ALSO way too long imho).

I don't think my sense of the ridiculous is well developed enough to enjoy this book. Books where both MCS seems flakey and incompetent is just not my kink.

I had to come look at the release date for this one as the writing feels so amateurish that I was convinced that this was one of the author's early releases. But.... I guess not? I don't think it's bad enough to DNF, but it's honestly a toss up at this point.

I don't know anything about JJ Mulder, but after using the words "ribald" and "skirt chasing" in the same paragraph - that was supposedly written from the perspective of a young, 20-something male - I am going to assume they're a middle aged white lady from the Midwest.

As someone who spilled a pot of boiling hot coffee down my shirt as a teenager, I can say with 100% confidence that Court is being a giant man baby about this little caffeinated dunk of his junk.

Is Goodreads randomly create 2nd and 3rd reads of books you read years ago?? It seems every few weeks GR is telling me that *I* marked a book as read but didn't include a date - which DID NOT HAPPEN. It is SO frustrating!

Ugh. The author had a great build-up to the main characters' first kiss and first time together and then had it all happen OFF PAGE?! Then, to add insult to injury, we immediately fast forward a YEAR.

This author just wrote that one of the characters is used to being "the man" in bed. In a gay romance novel. Where they are both men.

I'm not a gay man, but the implication that one partner - either the more submissive one or the one bottoming - is usually "the woman" seems pretty homophobic to me.

Correct me if I'm interpreting this wrong.

Honestly, how hard is it for indie authors to hire proofreaders? Less than 75 pages in and there has been nearly 10 typos (incl. character names ONE sentence apart), naming two characters the same name (which happens in real life but DOESN'T have to happen in a book), and continuity errors. It just feels insulting as a reader.

I am really enjoying this book, but it 100% reads like Dr. Spencer Reid fanfic (and I am not sure that Sharp has bothered to develop her MMC beyond that crutch).

Is it just me or are these journal entries written more like flashbacks than how a person would write in a diary?

Can you PLEASE cut it out with the third act breakup trope? There are better conflicts out there. Please. I am begging for a LITTLE originality.

I feel like this author has never talked to a teacher in her life. In what world of school shootings, safety protocols, and general professionalism does Mack think teachers' best friends and boyfriends can just wander into a high school and interrupt their classes?! Pfffft.

I know this book is supposed to be dual POV, but I swear they read the exact same. I have to keep checking chapter titles to see what's going on.

The FMC is using tears to get her way and garner sympathy. Fucking yikes.

I swear to gawd, if this author says that the MFC is "so tiny", "so small", "just a little thing" ONE MORE FREAKIN' TIME, I am going to throw my kindle against the wall. Why do female authors reinforce this bullshit male gaze nonsense in their own books?! Establish her size/stature once in the opening pages (if you must) and then MOVE THE FUCK ON. Surely her size is the least interesting thing about her, right?!

So here I was, flipping pages thinking that this enemies to lovers hockey romance wasn't really adding anything new to the genre when the deep feels just kinda snuck up on me and smack me in the face. Ouch.
