There are some wildly problematic pieces of this book that don't resonate for me, but there are chunks that are thought provoking and help me shift lenses to consider situations/obstacles from another angle.
I think this book would be problematic for someone who reads and believes in an "all or nothing" interpretation (as the "youth" seems to say: I have to accept it all or none of it).

Gene Wolfe is always disorienting, but the second segment of this book was especially so!

Revisited in Audio - not in love with the audiobook narrators/recording quality -the "s" sounds from the male narrator actually hurt to hear

It took about 3 chapters to get into this - unfortunately it was a traumatic scene that hooked me in, but hook me it did.

This is adorable and full of legitimately funny moments.
the “alpha” thing is ehhhh - but she at least reframes it a little bit.
I’m 1000% Team Earl in the favorite characters department.

The sheep…the trying-so-hard-to-be-poetic…the rendition of his friend’s voices… if I was his friend and heard him “do” my voice in this book, I’d slap him with a canoe paddle.

I'm really liking this, except his rendition of his friends voices in the audiobook makes them sound like Simpsons characters... And there are some odd metaphors in there...

But also, thank you for highlighting how much developers suck. Man I love that.
