The Winter Soldier: Cold Front
The ten digit dialing number came into use in the UK and Europe some time in the 1990s. I would think someone who writes books set in the Victorian period would have some decent research skills ...

Here I am, listening to this book and seriously thinking about DNFing it, because it's boring. Then at 36% of the audio I come up against Lee's very poor historical research.
A character responding to something Buckey tells her says, "That scans." Not in 1941 it doesn't. 21st century terms don't belong in the 1940s!
Pushing buttons on a payphone wouldn't happen until 1968.
DO YOUR RESEARCH!

DNF at 32% and not looking back. Is it possible to find a mate book that doesn't rely on the mate smell good - mating lust activated trope? I want a well written story of two people who get to know each other BEFORE mating and having an actual conversation first. Ugh.

Final Orders (Hazard and Somerset: Arrows in the Hand, #5)
Hazard and Somers have their hands full dealing with a murder, a network of hateful women (and the one in charge is the worst) and their anti-lgbt agenda, a teenager whose best friend is caught up a relationship that freezes their friendship into a standstill, the possible loss of custody due to stupid teenage actions, and, of course, two idiots in love. Y'know, the usual for this pair.

The author's overuse of the term "literally" makes me want to send her a link to Weird Al's song 'Word Crimes'.
So, our protagonist is finally starting to figure things out. This book is a bit slow going though and it drags a bit.

Argh. This book follows the typical plot of YA, namely: "I'm X years old and I haven't been kissed yet! I'm so behind my friends! Wahhh."
Most of the aros/aces/aroaces in this age group I've encountered come from a really different POV: "Why is there so much emphasis on these sorts of things? I'm so confused!"
At least it isn't in present tense.

Trailer Park Trickster (Adam Binder, #2)
This story is zipping right along. Adam and Vic have some issues to work out, esp. when it comes to communication (who doesn't?). Adam's mother and brother are being supportive. Silver and Argent are themselves (elves. What more to say?). The bad guy is a druid who definitely doesn't have a healthy ecology in mind when he uses his magic.

Poor Adam. His Aunt Sue is dead and the only home he's ever known is wrecked. Hang in there Adam! Help, unexpected and, possibly unwanted, is on its way. This is going to be quite the gathering ...

. Ugh. I feel like there's a layer of clear plastic between me and the characters. I will attempt to keep reading, but that layer makes it hard to connect with ever the MC. 🙁

The Story of Medieval England from King Arthur to the Tudor Conquest
This is more like listening to a long story about English history and I'm really enjoying it. Currently in Henry II's reign and things are about to get contentious with Eleanor of Aquitaine...

Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder
An interesting look into the surprisingly murky history of Mrs. Wilder and her family. The author has done a lot of research to round out and give context to the stories LIW wrote with rose tinted glasses and that history is both fascinating and painful to listen to, a more complex story than a children's story is wont to give us. Also, this book vindicates my mom's view of Charles Ingalls, as a footloose wanderer.

The Siren and the Sword (Magic University, #1)
The story itself is pretty decent - there's actual plot and the MC, Kyle, is a reasonably interesting person. However, it would be improved immensely by the removal of all the sex magic. There's waaaaay too much and it's rather skeezy to say the least.

Necropolis PD
This is a very engaging read. It's a fish-out-of-water, coming of age, story and Jacob, the young man in question, is, despite everything, finding his feet in the strange world of Meridian he fell into by accident. Now working for Necropolis PD, he has to find the person murdering the revenant citizens of the city before another one dies.

Entree to Murder, by Nicole Kimberling, was fun (though I was hoping for more Keith & Gunther). I would have liked more build up between Mac and Drew before they got together. .12 Seconds was an enjoyable read by new-to-me author Meg Perry, though there are few questionable law enforcement moments. .Just started S.C. Wynne's short Reality Bites.

Badlands (Badlands, #1)
I know there are those who would disagree, but there's too much sex in this story and not enough actual getting to know you between the characters. Vick's methods are using police contacts to check out Simon and Simon? Who knows? At this point, the Strand Slasher case is more interesting than the relationship stuff going on.

So I started listening to this on Tuesday and almost immediately started rolling my eyes, a lot. These two don't know each other, at all, yet they're already horny for each other. No real introductions, no date, no build up - just one look and bam! .Then, of course, miscommunications up the wazoo. One's psychic, the other's a cop - a good combo if they can get over their hangups. I just don't buy instant attraction.
