In the White Rat series, the characters are often quickly infatuated with each other (which I don't mind), but they stubbornly try to talk themselves out of it. That hinders them as much (if not more) than any of the others plot/timing contrivances set in their way.
Tbh I hope in one of the later books the characters aren't so oblivious/obstinate to admitting how quickly they've fallen in love with each other

Traversing the room with the blades is giving me big "laser dance in Entrapment" vibes. Also, concerning Galen: we love aan who will talk you through it 😏

There's quite a lot of both characters mentally commenting on each other's bodies. I don't immediately recall if the previous M/F books were similar in that regard. I don't mind; I'm just noticing.
Also: was the ancient treasure Galen mentioned...a lighter and some polyester?? 😲🤔

Maas really needs to come up with a new shtick, cause the "pretending to be evil/mad/a dick but was actually the good guy the whole time" gimmick is getting hella repetitive.
Especially when it's happening for the 3rd time in the same book.

Also: too many things are appearing only now, without having been established in book 1 & 2 (Stelians, Cataclysm, Eliza). I know I'm only halfway through the last book and a lot can still happen, but the situation seems so dire, the stakes so high, and the time left so short (since the sky is collapsing or whatever), that I really don't get what the next 45% are supposed to be about. Hope the pacing doesn't falter.

Is it me, or are the baddies in this series kinda...one-dimensional? Especially Morgan.
I mean Thiago could at least be manipulative in a way that had you second-guessing his actions and motives. But Morgan Toth? Bad to the bone. Unredeemable. And therefore boring.

Yis. Give me more Liraz being angry about having feelings. I love a woman who could just break me in half.

Honestly, kinda amazing that Laini Taylor wrote a destined-lovers YA series where the main characters don't really spend any time with each other throughout... at least half of book two. Bold move, kinda impressive, ngl.

Rereading so I can jump fresh into Red Side Story. Can't wait.
(I forgot that the plot of the book literally happens in the span of like, what? Three days? And during the last couple-dozen pages we get SO MUCH info)

I know I started reading this in March 2022, immediately after finishing ACOMAF, but I got distracted and stopped at some point.
So, we're giving this another shot.

We're finally getting to the good stuff (worldbuilding, lore, action), instead of real world teen angst and secrets heaped upon mysteries. Yes, I'm being harsh but I've heard such praise for this series that I might be a bit biased :P
Also: at this point the predestined instant-love is getting a tad grating but we shall persevere.

If there's one thing in this book even more 2000's YA than predestined insta-love, it's everything that Zuzana says. Peak unreasonably verbose, horny sidekick energy 😆

Czuję jakbym zwariowała. Czemu nikt się nie dziwi, że Sōami nagle wrócił. I co on w ogóle robił na posterunku? Czemu omawiają śledztwo przy nim? Rozłazi mi się to wszystko.
(also mam problemy z timeline'em. Jak długo go nie było? Przez długowieczność Mariki - i innych nadnaturalnych - brakuje konkretów co do upływu czasu)

Kurczę, sympatycznie się tę książkę czyta, ale kompletnie nie mogę się z nikim zżyć emocjonalnie. Fabuła i przeżycia bohaterów mocno po mnie spływają. Smuteczek.
