This book’s take on a dystopian future where everything is bleak and queerness is embraced reads as homophobic.

Not particularly impressed so far. I feel like Cynthia could’ve waited longer to write a book. She has wisdom but is still quite young.

Getting pretty interesting. Prose is less basic and plot is good.

Reading experience is simplistic so I switched to audiobook. Plot is interesting though.

So far, I am being hammered by evidence that social media is bad. There isn’t much else that I feel like I am getting from the book. Many of the psychological studies referenced are either things I’ve already heard of or nothing too groundbreaking. I think it would be more interesting if there was more insight into the benefits of social media. Also gender is being described in a very binary way.

So far, this is reminding me a lot of the movie Get Out. The writing is a bit simplistic and straightforward in the first part, but I’m interested to see what happens next.

There are so many characters that I feel like there is little to no character development. Characters are simply good or bad based on their association with Viridans. There isn’t much nuance or complexity and interactions are all quite superficial.

Why is the author so horny… there are so many unnecessary sexual jokes

I’m confused on the purpose of this book. It seems to be commenting on the environmental destructiveness of humans, but the writing is choppy and bizarre. The author fluctuates between unnecessarily “scientific” words to childish descriptions. For example, why were there several sentences dedicated to a joke on “wanking”? And “grippy stairs”?
