Little things add up quickly. Having a gun owner refer to a pistol’s magazine as a “clip” destroys credibility. And shooters don’t do double taps to reacclimatize to shooting.

The narration is notable right off the bat, and not for great reasons. He is flat-I'm not entirely sure if it is just him or questionable audio quality, but the nature of his voice feels squashed. I know this can be a product of "over sampling" audio files, which some studios do in the attempt to remove excess background noise or distracting "breathing". Or, it might just be that he is one of those flat-line readers.

I don't know if it's just that my head's not in this one, but it hasn't hooked me. I'm also not sure if it is the narrator, but so far Red Sister has come off incredibly dry to me. I'm not connected to any of the characters, and not invested in the story. In fact, I had to read other reader's feedback to find out details I should have learned from listening. Passing for now.

Alanson's story telling has veered further away from Joe and Skippy and that is a bad thing. Without the wit, banter, and humor, the frustrating flaws in Alanson's writing becomes much more apparent. He is an incredibly "on the nose" writer. Everything is explained through the narrator, leaving the characters as passive bystanders. There is only so much a reader wants to be "told". Paint the picture Craig.
