Alanson's story telling has veered further away from Joe and Skippy and that is a bad thing. Without the wit, banter, and humor, the frustrating flaws in Alanson's writing becomes much more apparent. He is an incredibly "on the nose" writer. Everything is explained through the narrator, leaving the characters as passive bystanders. There is only so much a reader wants to be "told". Paint the picture Craig.

I, like so many people, became hooked on this series primarily because of the relationship between Skippy and Joe. Unfortunately, with each subsequent release, Alanson broadens the focus too much = too little Joe and Skippy. It is getting formulaic and repetitive now. Final gripe, Alanson needs to use a lot less exposition, especially during tense moments. "Telling" removes us from the moment.
