Multiplicity - more than one perspective in a relationship. "come let us reason together" "see as we are seen and know as we are known". "Be curious, never furious." Mutual understanding brings connection. Listen to understand rather than to respond. Multiplicity also applies to our own experiences—normal to feel conflicting feelings. "I am a good parent having a hard time."

This is very good.. halfway through and it's so hard to put down...

Decided to reread this after visiting Forks and Port Angeles in Washington state. So far I'm enjoying it more than the first time around. I might even continue to the second book in the series eventually, but no guarantees ;)

Would it change her? Every day, their attention must turn, like the shine on a school of fish, all at once, toward a new person to hate. Sometimes the subject was a war criminal, but other times it was someone who made a heinous substitution and guacamole. It was not so much the hatred she was interested in as the swift attenuation, as if they're collective blood had made a decision.

It was a mistake to believe that other people were not living as deeply as you were. Besides, you are not even living that deeply.

What does not feel like the deliberate prodding of wounds is a simple "I'm sorry," because in its banality it presumes nothing... Concrete and sincere memories from those who knew him comfort the most.

Another revelation: how much laughter is a part of grief.

Grief is a cruel kind of education... You learn how much grief is about language, the failure of language and the grasping for language.

Alternately reading and listening to this for a Native American literatures course. (The audiobook is read by the author and is amazing.)

Let us remember that everyone's social career, no matter how modest, is littered with bodies.

Very soporific so far

“Enough! When science has spoken, it is for us to hold our peace.” I actually found this pretty funny because of course this book is full of outdated scientific theories and scientific knowledge is ever-evolving. Lidenbrook is such a funny character and the reluctant narrator is quite great too. Really enjoying this one—I had forgotten how humorous Verne can be :)

Biblical scholar David Freeman indicates the original Hebrew word in Genesis 2:18 combines two roots, one meaning "to rescue, to save" and the other meaning "to be strong" eventually merging into one word 'ezer' which meant either "to save" or "to be strong," but in time always interpreted as "to help"

Written like a textbook, so I'm reading this slowly. Some symbol interpretations seem obvious, but I suspect the author is trying to be comprehensive, so they are important to include. Right now: parts of the body. The most interesting one to me so far is the forehead. (There are a few doctrinal assumptions in this chapter I don't agree with, but that's to be expected.)
