Second reading. It now reminds me of Heyer's "The Grand Sophy", which was unknown to me then.

It starts as a Pygmalion Galateae kind of story but with a malicious Pygmalion. Different and interesting.

Very promising beginning

It is getting interesting. The first 50 pages made me read two other books inbetween.

Every paragraph is a surprise. I have no idea what to expect from Eleanor.

Up to now it is more like a collection of short stories than a novel.

After a slow beginning it is getting better and better

I cannot believe that a book is making me laugh so much.

This is one of the authors earliest books (first published 1980). I am not so sure I want to continue with the Golden chronicles.
