Sort of paused this book for a moment. I don't know if it's the progression of his thought through the years or just varying quality in the translation, but some parts are thought provoking, profound, breath-taking in their depth and originality. Others seem ignorant and juvenile. There are some references to Islam early on that make me wonder if he's ever studied it, but he is more nuanced with Advaita Vedanta.

About as easy to read as Titus Burckhardt's 'Introduction to Sufi Doctrine'.

How is learning ITRANS useful for a language where many of the letters are VERY RARELY used. For example - cerebral consonants - "All of the letters in this group are infrequent. If you encounter a word with a sound that might be in this group, it is for more likely that it will be in the next group" (i.e., dental consonants). I'll likely finish the book but focus exclusively on Devanagari going forward.
