So far I am underwhelmed.
Protagonist is a bit dim. Antagonists are a bit dim. Randoms aliens are a bit dim. Only bright spot is the intentionally dim bird-song aliens who work with the heroin - they feel almost right.
Everyone else seems to be on stupid dust.... well maybe not stupid but certainly short-sighted and careless.

Underwhelmed. The protagonists are straight out of Central Casting - Beautiful, Strong, Independent, Noble, Just, And Sexual Dynamos. the Antagonists is a brutal, selfish, evil child.

Yawn!

Wake me when something interesting happens.

I will finish it, I have read a HELL of a lot worse, but as of this moment its on track for a solid 2-star Review!

So far its entertaining, far mo so than the last pseudo-military action adventure book I read. It seemed somewhat nostalgic, then I realized it was initially published in 1998.
My only complaint has nothing to do with the story - the CD's I borrowed from the library has apparently been dropped in a vat of gravy or something and I had to take them all and clean them so they would stop skip-skip-skip-skipping.

It was a good story till it got EXTREMELY PREDICTABLE concerning (Spoilers) a Snow storm, and pregnancy, and the inevitable rescue by the handsome man... Blea!
Everyone was acting extremely STUPID. I will leave it at that, but I will say when the handsome man went to rescue his sister-in-law/Surrogate for his baby he should have taken a friend along with him - flying solo in a blizzard is mind-boggling dumb.

Just finished Part I - Really enjoying the history of my people.
Chapter 5 (the last chapter of part 1) was on Andrew Jackson & his times - it might be relevant in some ways to our current populist, foul-mouthed, crude outsider.
Mwanananana (cough)!

Just figured out how the winner of the contest will be determined - I think. Pretty sure of myself anyway. This is a GREAT book, looks like it will end up with a 5-star rating.

Just figured out how the winner will be determined - I think. Pretty sure of myself. Anyway I LOVE this book, only slightly annoyed at all of the jumping around in time (I prefer a straight linear story most of the time). I tend to get lost otherwise. then again maybe that is part of the magic of this book. So far it is a solid 4 and very close to a 5!

When picked this up I thought it was the second book in the Bridge Series! I know, bad reader! No biscuit! Well I am committed and hooked now, so I have to finish this one. Its too damn good to put aside until I get the previous books.
Crap! Gibbson – you bastage! How dare you be this good of a writer! I am hooked on a book about inseams and fashion colour pallets! You evil, EVIL man!

Oh yea, the main characters former father-in-law was a hypocritical and abusive Christian Preacher. YAWN! Wake me up when the stereotypes end.

So far I am underwhelmed. America Bad, George Bush evil and a pretender to the throne – the tied old “Progressive” Democrat screed. Hopefully it will get better.

Seems like I know this story. Maybe I have read something similar. Anyway I have a sinking feeling I know exactly where this is going and how its getting there. I have actually turned it off a few times (I almost never do that) to listen to some music. Does not bode well. Still I will give it a go, it could pick up.

The previous book I read in this series (Book 5 – Plague Ship) was fun, perhaps because I had not read others in the series. I have now started with books 1 & 2 and so far I a underwhelmed. It’s kind of rote stuff, not very creative, original, or even realistic.

Interesting, though perhaps a little too girlie for my taste. Still, other than the painfully awkward parts (or maybe because of them) it’s decent youth fiction.

Mr. Miéville seems (to this old fogy in any case) to be trying just a little too hard to be hip and edgy. It is good, just a little annoying at times
