I feel like Rin keeps making the same mistake as she did in the previous two books. I won't say that there's no character development, more like it's because she's still very naive and struggles to find her own place and understand her own value. That's the thing about books with teenagers/young adults as their main characters: it's so frustrating at parts and yet we root for these characters anyway.

I'm reading the book in Indonesian language because I hate how modern the dialogue sounds in English (based on my reading the first and second books).

It's a bit hard to get into at first, but once I was caught in the "flow" of the writing, I am hooked. It reads like folk tales.

I want to savor this book but it's such a page-turner and Elena Ferrante always uses a cliffhanger at the end of each book. It's highly entertaining and contemplative at the same time.

A bit disorienting since the author reuses the names of characters in a similar but different story.

Finally, the plot thickens. The first half was such a slog to get through.

Taking it slowly because there are a lot of things to learn and unlearn. Reading this reminds me why one reads at all: to understand something that is beyond our own self, to acknowledge our own limited knowledge and bias, and to discover new possibilities of the past and the future

I didn't know that people could write and tell a story like this. Every chapter feels like a movie.

One third in and I can see why the book is a (contemporary) cult-classic. This explains the history of Homo sapiens from the beginning in a digestible language. A bit repetitive, but okay.

Starts a bit slower than 'It' (granted, in It, a kid dies in the first chapter). Still a page turner.
