Kinda lost the thread of interest...

Stopped for now. It's just too boringly written. A great subject but unengaging writing.

I'm not an expert in this field, but heavily sympathetic to the approach taken, which is to divest the inquiring mind of embedded Eurocentric 'Nowist' ways of looking at prehistoric societies.

Not very interesting to me. Stopped at page 30

This one's only for those with a professional interest in the subject, and even there I can't recommend it. The approach is through theory and criticism, and one barely gets a feeling for the people involved or why they care about the field they are engaged in. So it feels frustratingly at a great distance, without a center, and terribly dry and boring.

Every page is like pulling feelings out of my soul and expressing them as clear, sometimes poetic observations about improvisation and living (same thing)

Stopped reading. Too much work for too little payback.

First time I've cracked this one since college. Still a stunner of a book. I had to skip Esther's nose job, it was giving me the creepy-crawlies. Profane just bagged another alligator.
