"Not you either!" Temeraire contradicted, to Tharkay's startlement, and settled down as mulish as a dragon could look; and Granby had folded his arms and wore an expression very similar. Laurence had ordinarily very little inclination to profanity, but he was sorely tempted on this occasion."

"...Laurence woke when Temeraire proceeded to envelop himself in his cot, which turned around twice as he tried to climb down. Laurence had to unhook it to disentangle him, and he burst out of the unwound fabric in hissing indignation. He had to be groomed and petted back into temper, like an affronted cat, and then he was at once hungry again."

The way that this one passage is gonna make me read the whole series...

I was worried this one wasn't going to live up to the others in the series in the beginning...but Archer won me over in the second half! Once the romance gets its legs, the magic of the other books was there. Definitely not the strongest book, but still worth reading.

Vigga is cheap laughs, but she's a good time :)

"They'd yearned to tend to their immortal souls, apparently, but a bit less than they yearned to tend to business, so they'd bought dispensation to send likenesses in their place. The Saviour had said no one could buy one's way into heaven, but most agreed that was just a negotiating tactic on her part."

Sending portraits of yourself to go on a holy pilgrimage is funny on so many levels.

Wow. I started this book probably around noon, and it kept me GLUED to my book until I finished it at about 10:30pm. Not as lyrical as the Quiet Tenant, I think it's that caliber of a thriller. The pacing is spot on, and you get so invested in Miley's survival.

I had hopes for this one, but the execution fell flat. I like a slow burn, but there were almost next to no pay offs for the waiting. Plot wise, we spend forever waiting for the TV show feature, but it's just not enough of it in the book to matter. There is a lot of telling about the characters and then the actual growth/changes happen off page. Almost every aspect of it is just too thin/insubstantial...

This is the most "Rainbow Rowell novel" Rainbow Rowell has ever written. The narrative style, the 2 timeline plot, the characters, the chaotic then sweet moments. Loving it.

Somehow, this has possibly become my favorite volume? I love !court Hades , and Zeus's hoe shit coming out, the just the general mess that played out between all the characters in the side plots that have been developing. This full arc is gonna be juicy as hell.

In a market that values high spice, I really appreciate that this one is a fluffy romance. Jacob is the shy cinnamon roll written exactly right. Loved the characters (the couple AND the families) the writing, the pacing. It's so funny. Unfortunately, the miscommunication plot aspects fell a bit short... but Jimenez almost always works for me.

This is one hell of a book - voicey, hilarious, sad, heartfelt. It really does make you laugh, cringe in secondhand embarrassment, and get misty eyed every other page. The plot wobbles 3 quarters in, but the writer nails the end. I don't normally like magic realism, but this is an exception.

Loved the characters and found the plot compelling (I blew through the whole thing in one sitting). I really think the story could have used another subplot and about 100 more pages. I enjoyed it, but the jump from attraction to the depth of the relationship needed more time/on page action.
