Still reading this, but I have to say that what I took for a very well written stream of consciousness tale by a person who also seemed sane is becoming quite tedious.

The main characters (thus far) seem neurotic and weak. Alcohol plays a big part for one character, as we learn what a total disaster she has become. Another is a serial cheater and I'd say I have almost zero sympathy for the characters at this point.

Rereading The Glass Bead Game—Hesse—been 5 or 10 years since I last read it. I traded books with James Babb. We both won IPPY medals in juvenile fiction this year. I gave him a copy of The Boy Who Ran in exchange for a copy of his book, The Devil's Backbone. I'm also revising (copy edits) on The Balance—YA / Distopian Been posting chapters on my web site—1 / month. Would be nice to have beta readers w feedback.

After getting my Ipad to work, I started reading The Calling by Louise White. Tonight / this morning I'm listening to YoYo Ma play Back concertos, drinking a little port and reading—taking a short writing break.

I'm doing more re-reading of different works right now. I find it's a useful to look at a book in different ways. Sometimes I read in a traditional way, just to escape into another world or to visit with and understand the characters an author has created and sometimes I read as a writer, to understand and learn something more about my craft. Usually I can find something new and interesting in a book I've read.
