150 pages left and I don’t think I can finish this. The plot is a wreck. Very obviously making it up as she goes along. Why even make them vampires when almost no vampire things happen?!

Best chapter of the book so far. This is King at his best. This feels like It.

I was imagining the Stand would be like Alice’s big battle premonition in Twilight, but instead we’re stuck with these four boneheads for the last 400 pages? Sometimes I just wish King would outline before writing…

I’m bored of Boulder but I love the couple that moved in together. Dramaaa. Felt very emotional about the talk of all the banal and mundane that is lost and will be missed. Very weird to be reading this in given the state of the US in early 2025. A world in ruins and the ever-present threat of a pure evil man and his followers all set on death and destruction…

Even if there was no more plot development for the remaining 800 pages, this would still be 5 stars. The character development is unbelievable.

Reading pandemic lit while sick is trippy. The scene where Lloyd meets Randall was unforgettable.

This is deceivingly simple. I'm taking notes and everything, but actually implementing it in conversations is really tough.

Next to nothing has happened, and yet I could stay in this world forever.

I can’t explain WHY this works for me (and clearly it doesn’t work for a lot of people based on the reviews), but holy hell I’m loving it. The setup felt more like a short story or novella, but now that I’ve gone through the first long flashback, so so glad it’s a long novel.

Taking a little break from this because I find this section where we are just watching Oswald unbearable.

I’m so NOT invested in Lee Harvey Oswald I’m the context of this book that reading the chapters about him are painful.

I’m reading this from the fugue state that is the first month of the school year, and this book is sending me. What is happening?? Love it.

I expected this to be paranormal horror like the novella I read by this author, but so far it’s cop-POV thriller and I really hate cop POV 🙁

No spoilers, but an important incident in this novel happened in 1958 in Derry?? “Sometimes a coincidence is just a coincidence,” but not this time, King. The clown made him do it!

Although this reminded me of some of my favorite short stories to teach (“Monkey’s Paw, “Button Button”), “This isn’t some half-assed morality tale” (269). Enjoyable but not much of a pay-off in the end.

Ick. I can’t think of any circumstance in which I want to read a story of a woman’s rape written by a man.

There was a lot in the set-up that I was enjoying, like the Mrs. Marple references and the “Good Man is Hard to Find” vibe. But the purposeless homophobia coupled with the gratuitous sexual violence ruined this pretty quickly.

How do you rate something you wish didn’t exist?

“1922” was absolutely incredible. It reminded me of every short story I’ve ever loved. SK took the best parts of Pet Sematary, Dolores Claiborne, and “The Man in the Black Suit” and rolled them all into one novella. I could have done without some of the animal body horror, but I will read anything and everything SK writes about grief. More please.
