Laurie is on page 355 of 578 of India: A History
More about the political history of India and less on the cultural history. So far a very good overview in preparation for travel.

Not really something I should spend my time reading, it's something I can pick up and put down to accommodate the the activities of house guests.

Sometimes nothing satisfies quite like John Le Carre. It's time for a re-read.

Laurie is on page 94 of 304 of Ancestral Journeys: The Peopling of Europe from the First Venturers to the Vikings
Replacement copy arrived last night! Double checked the print run and it looks ok.

So far I'd say this book is a synthesis of archaeological, linguistic and human genetic research. Not a tightly focused study and analysis such as David Anthony's The Horse, The Wheel and Language; more of a broad brush overview to the peopling of Europe.

Arrrrrrgh! Reached page 68 only to discover that in the next 15 pages of text, 8 are blank where text should be. Totally frustrating. I've ordered another copy but it will take a week before I receive it.

Reading HWL is work. It's a bit like being in childbirth; painful level of details to wade through at times along with the beauty of progressing towards a greater level of understanding of such a bedrock event in European history. Anthony doesn't spend much time discussing the "influence" as stated in his subtitle. He's intent upon proving his thesis which he is doing marvelously.
