Not disappointed so far. The plot moves a bit more slowly compared to King Sorrow, which was also long, but had side-quests to keep the reader engaged and entertained throughout. I’m only halfway through, and hoping things will pick up and it will live up to the hype.

Reminiscent of Ally Condie’s Matched (2011) series. More dystopian than fantasy, the world-building feels a bit rushed, the mechanics of which remains a mystery to me. Maybe that’s the fantasy part? The main character’s wavering indecision as she steps back and forth between worlds makes it difficult to relate to or sympathize with her. She’s not a teen after all, but a 27 year old woman, albeit sheltered.

Pretty creeped out at this point!

Starting with the audio version almost put me off this book. The high-pitched child’s voice was grating at first. I pop back and forth between ebook and audio, otherwise I don’t think I could do it.
As for the story, I was instantly intrigued the “Other Mommy”character and I’m already invested in whether she is an imaginary friend, a hallucination, or something else entirely.
