I can’t think of a book I’ve read that was more intense and unsettling… I’ve got an ache in my stomach and chest, but at the same time it’s very hard to put this away.

I can't believe it's been 12 years since I first read The Bone Season. I loved it and thought the sequel was even better, but somehow bought but never started the third one. I do want to know where the story goes and since I can only remember vibes and no characters or plot lines, I guess I'll just start at the beginning again! Bit scared I won't love it as much this time around though ....

This started out so good… then halfway through the pace got waaaay too slow… and now I am so lost, I feel like I’m swimming in the starless sea 😵‍💫

I bought this book when it came out in like 2019 and for some reason never picked it up until now but it is so insanely good ?!?

The writing style is a little bit too much “dear diary” style for me

lol this fight with the family is sooo triggering and relatable

The author must’ve been heavily inspired by the Lies of Locke Lamora and Red Seas Under Red Skies, right? I mean, right? (I’m not complaining though)

Ok the second part of this book is losing me

It’s a bit all over the place. Too many characters and the story goes off on too many irrelevant tangents.

Brilliant first chapter. Loving this a lot.

I don’t think Kuang is very creative. The world building is meh (where’s the fantasy part? Why do the magical bars materially change nothing about the course of history?) and the plot is exactly like allllll of the dystopian rebellion YA stories I read as a teen. It’s copy paste.

This book bores me to death. I just don’t care about the story, the characters, or all of those classes? And it’s barely actually fantasy?

It’s ok? But I’m not sure Neil Gaiman’s books are for me.

This is starting to get reaalllly good.

Fun fact: every night I fall asleep listening to a Hercule Poirot story read by Hugh Fraser.

This might be the most interesting book I’ve ever read.

I can already tell this is going to get 2 stars at best. I’d like my money back from the bookshop employee who specifically told me to buy this book instead of another Kazuo Ishiguro book I was holding.

It’s finally starting to get interesting. My theory for now is that the ‘donations’ mean their organs will be harvested. We’ll see.

This started out pretty slow and boring but it’s turning into a lovely story.

So grateful for Brené Brown and her books.

Rereading this for the third time because it's probably my #1 favorite book ever and such a comfort read (it's like my Harry Potter). Also hoping that maybe this time my favorite characters won't die.

So good, but also a bit difficult to get through because the topics of the essays are quite heavy.

The narrator puts on weird, slow baby voices for each character and it’s ruining the story for me. 🙃

Am I a fan of romances? Not really. Am I loving this one? Absolutely.

So Patricia finds her friend upset after she was sexually assaulted and then, when she helps her shower, describes her friend’s breasts as “small and pale, making her look like a plucked chicken”? Just fuck off. No woman would ever describe another woman like that. Wtf is wrong with male authors? Where does the apparently irresistible urge to describe every woman’s breasts and pubes come from?!

Why do I feel so ‘meh’ about 75% of the books that I pick up? 🙄

I don’t want to dnf a book too soon; I want to give it a chance. But then I’m so bored trying to get through it. 🙃
