I did not in a million years think a book about BULLET JOURNALING would hit this hard! This coming from a person who started reading this with a pre-existing strong distaste for the whole bullet journaling concept.

I decided to check out this book because I started a reading journal this year and I wanted to better understand the basics, but instead in these introductory pages I am being SEEN.

holy shit this book has been a wild ride!
lots of body horror. very Gothic. some descriptions have been so disgusting that they've turned my stomach
I still have no idea where this story is headed but color me quite intrigued
pretty slow overall but I'm not upset about that
I can't believe how quickly I'm getting through this. the end of each chapter keeps reeling me in for another!

I read the first chapter: I. Am. Intrigued. At just 14% in, the reader is required to suspend their disbelief in.. *so many* ways, but the writing is gorgeous and I really hope it's going to pay off.

The pace is pretty slow but these characters are likeable and their motivations are believable and I'm desperately rooting for most of them.

There's this slight buzz of tension woven throughout that never lets up, and peaks when the Wastelands get a little too curious.

The audiobook is fantastic!

The first third of this book was both family and Armenian history (which was absolutely necessary to read about to best understand some of Serj's musical/lyrical motivation and inspiration) and now we're solidly into the formation of SOAD as we know it. It's SO COOL to learn about the backstory of some of the songs I shouted/sang along with in highschool.

so far You Sexy Thing is reminding me of a space opera, think Star Trek or Firefly, crossed with Nathan Lowell's Quarter Share: a diverse crew stationed in some distant corner of the universe with a strong focus on food.
I wanted to read a space book so this one's checking all the boxes so far.

Reading this book gives the same feeling as watching an episode of a British murder mystery at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon in my grandma's living room: it's interesting and yet a little boring at the same time, has likeable characters, and you can't put it down until you know whodunnit.

I wish I had more experience with the mystery genre to know if this is *too* easy to read or just the standard for the genre.

happy to finally be reading this. I can tell it's going to be slow going because that's just how I am with old books. and yet despite its age I've already encountered incredibly compelling story beats.
also, I'm loving that this futuristic world is set in the past, i.e., 2021. lol

At the 100-page mark I was enjoying what an easy read this book was, found the premise intriguing.

At around the 150-page mark, what made the two main characters interesting started morphing into something.. else.. and was becoming annoyingly predictable.

Now at the 200-page mark I'm wondering if adding some spice into the mix will right this sinking ship or if I will end up dropping it like a hot coal.

this book is flying by but I'm going about it in such a slow way. I'm not sure why I'm not inspired to stick with it for periods of time. I'm not engaging with.. I guess the entire premise? it's turning into an inheritance games situation and I don't care for that at all, it's cheapening all the other unique things about this story. I also detest the awkward attempts at injecting romance, it's incredibly unnecessary.

from reading a few reviews I was under the impression that most of these collected books were small, unrelated, and relatively unimportant to the overarching story, but from flipping through the remaining pages I don't think that's true at all..

I just watched the Neva trailer for the first time today so parts of this story are hitting extra hard.

I read the blurb when I found this during my hunt for books about winter and isolation but I've since forgotten what it's about exactly. So it's been fun experiencing the story without expectations, a rarity for me.

I'm enjoying These Silent Woods so far but I've been wondering if the audio book would be a better format for this one. Loveable characters. Well-crafted prose. Plodding but intriguing.

enjoyable. interesting format but my enjoyment of the *myths* part of this book was wearing thin at about the halfway point, thankfully Winter's stories are becoming less frequent as the story progresses. the main story is SO GOOD, going at breakneck speed: MUST READ FASTER. but then Winter hunkers down to tell his latest story and my eyes immediately glaze over and I have to reread entire paragraphs multiple times.

I skimmed a few reviews going into this because already it has a sub-4.0 user review average and most reviews mention its connection to our early struggles with COVID. 17% in and the connection is crystal clear, the Bird Box comparison not so much. I'm realizing while reading this that my own mind is still bogged down in the what-ifs of the pandemic, horrified by how precariously we STILL live.

This book presents its selected homes from the most square feet (1,456 sf) to the least (100 sf) and at ~60% mark we're finally getting to the 800 sf or less mark. Have the homes up to this point been "tiny?" That's debatable.. Either way it's been fun to get a glimpse into so many different homes with varying styles.

The number of words I've had to look up in just four chapters is TOO DAMN MANY. Actually, it's fine--sometimes I like a challenge and there are enough paragraphs in between the obscure words to keep me interested instead of frustrated.
I still haven't decided if I like any of the characters yet, but there's potential. And the world building is top-notch and appeals to who I am as a person.
