after my last angst-fest I need a comfort re-read, fluffy smooshy kitty

even more emotional than I feared but surprisingly from the H rather than the h, no other Intrigue I've read has had me sobbing at the end

I've been putting this one off cuz of the kid angle, now it's time to take the plunge

has it really been over a decade since I read 1 of my fave AS?

still in a comfy re-read phase :-)

what is it, my 4th read now? still lovin' it

3 1/2* and my least fave 43LS so far - confusing 'real' memories and fake memories, no real mystery as to who's the bad guy, and cannot take seriously a James Bond master villain with a lair in Scotland (Scotland!) and a thick brogue

Max is a great H, 4 1/2-5* on re-read

3 1/2* rounded up, despite my snark it got more lively near the end, and I like to encourage newer authors to try different things

also was this actually marketed as a gothic? I feel part of my earlier disappointment was that it wasn't measuring up as a gothic read but was it actually sold as one?

villain has shown up with his strawberry blonde curls and he wants his favorite toy back dammit

screwed and tattoo'd h and her family of mice servants are starting to bore me - and what's with Hal? depression? insanity? I've read it twice and still can't figure it out

falling kinda flat now - gothic atmosphere has dissipated rapidly, servants too nice and accepting (where's Mrs Danvers when you need her?), mysterious disappeared H has reappeared too soon and is scarcely mysterious since we're privy to his every burbling thought, story badly needs a villain on-page

4 1/2*, crackling chemistry but some loose ends and again no ILY's

nice gothic atmosphere, 4 1/2*

most HH's tend to drag in the middle and I'm afraid that this one is starting to also, but it's been very good so far and I'm hoping for the best here

was heading for 4 1/2 - 5* until h pulled a dumb move near the end

very meaty, good suspense and plot, likable leads that act maturely

very gothic

yes I'm remembering this murderous family now

4 1/2*, great read, scary, unusual plot and good leads

3 1/2* - too may loose ends and h too forgiving

H is keeping so much from h and poohpoohing her suspicions it's like he's gaslighting her - there better be comeuppance and genuine h rage!

the Loyal Companion is a dog ... literally
