I've watched the Ken Burns documentary a few times on Netflix and really enjoyed it, and this book was apparently one of the major source works for the doc. The book does a really good job so far in describing the perfect storm of social, political and economic forces that came together to make Prohibition happen - and then how it immediately fell apart due to a disinterest in enforcement.
