I started this and simply had to put it down. I found the dehumanisation of women in the early chapters too much.
It sat half finished for nearly a year….. I have picked it back up having moved from the North Island where I in a previous life I worked as an ED nurse and knew the physical violence of gang life too well.
I now live in Te Waipounamu and have been to the places she speaks of. I’m ready to finish it.

So I started this and was feeling it too over written - was about to bin it. Then read some excellent reviews so I’m going back in and going to persevere.

I’m struggling…… I so want to read the story of this wonderful man. However the language and style is seriously off putting.

I will rest it in that pile of one day I’ll try again.

This just isn’t engaging me currently.

There is lots I like and admire about it, the writing style, the premise. Only for me right now it’s a little introverted.

I may come back to it, I may not. Regardless it looks pretty on my shelf.

I thought I may have been done with Brene........um nope - first chapter, tears and more swooning. I love this woman, I love her.

I'm close to bailing.....but something keeps stopping me. Frustrating.

I have read Italy and India and just have Indonesia/Bali to go. I will take a small break as I read my book club read for the month.

I go into this with trepidation so many polarizing views - many fellow readers have read this and have such different reactions. I need to make my own mind up.
