It was interesting to see how he reused certain ideas from story to story. It’s even more intriguing to see how he combines these ideas in a novel. It makes it a little easier to see how (if we don’t attribute it all to his speed habit) he was able to write so much during his short life. Bolano did something similar.

Truly serendipitous selection by the book club. It appears to feature prominently the two subjects which have lately been rattling around upstairs: Sculpture and Dante. Hopefully I can keep up.

First read this 10 years ago in an antiquated translation, possibly even prose, with zero annotations, before I knew how to select the matching edition on here, when the only lit that interested me was the DFW-sphere, and rated the thing three stars. Thank god human beings are capable of change.

Not sure I would continue if I weren’t already acquainted with Hardy.
