So glad I was convinced to give this another shot. Very excited to have a new bibliography to gorge on.

This is a lot of fun. The Lake Michigan setting might be biasing me a bit but oh well. I’m thinking it would be an interesting project one day to read all of Pynchon’s books in order of their historical setting…

This has really picked up.

To my taste as a reader, if a book aspires to a certain level of impenetrability, it should also simultaneously somehow seduce the reader into attempting to uncover its secrets. Schattenfroh has long sentences, but at least in translation, they lack the style that keeps me invested in works by say, Pynchon or Gass. I’m not the least bit curious about what it all means. I think I’ll be putting this one aside.

Perfect for when I need to come up for air from Schattenfroh.

I feel like I know where this is going, and have for some time… unless I’m just falling into Tagarczuk’s trap. Either way this is a lot of fun. Curious about her other work, which I’ve heard is a bit more literary…

Thinking about rereading 2666 next year. Maybe this will tip the scales…
