Page 175 contains a story about two men, Elliot & Artie, talking. "'She came up to me...'" Wait, "she"? Who's "she"? These are, according to the first two sentences, men talking.

"In other words, [Artie] Harvey, acting unilaterally, terminated his therapy with Pearce..." "His" therapy? So we are still talking about the same two men. The rest of the paragraph is only usng male pronouns.

Who was "she"?

"The parents who sent their children away were not bad people--in most cases they were intelligent, kind, and exceptionally well educated." Im sorry, but what? Since when are "intelligent" and "well educated" requirements for being a "good person"? Since when do "kind" people abandon their children so they can live a life of arrested development?

Page 89: "When I got married," Bray said years later, "I was a virgin, and we weren't even quite consummating. We were trying."

Page 91: "When I got married," Bray said years later, "I was a virgin, and we weren't even quite consummating. We were trying."

How did the editor miss this?

Side stories appear to be done now. The plot has reasserted itself.

How did this become the Johnny Fontaine story all of a sudden?

Coming to terms with centuries of tyranny and genocide causes Duncan Idaho to be irate but compliant to Leto II. Seeing two women kiss causes him to rant and rave about how evil Leto II is. Ok then.

Now that I know I have aphantasia, I understand why books like this appeal to me: the no-nonsense prose that tells you everything you need to know, and not a jot more than that. I know others don't like that, but as a result, I'm absolutely engrossed in this story and it's cast so far.

How important is it that the reader knows Sonny has a huge dick? Puzo seems to think it's very important.

Am I to conclude that only the first Dune novel has anything resembling narrative momentum? For the third book in a row, I'm left wondering if anything other than two or more characters pontificating in a dark room is going to happen.
Also, Herbert, can we talk? You can't simultaneously say Paul is tyrant while also dickriding Leto's "golden path."

So Lindbergh is essentially correct that FDR is feigning neutrality when what he really wants is to get the US involved in a European conflict. And FDR is correct that Lindbergh has Nazi sympathies. In other words, both these dudes are sleazy in their own way.

The Golden Path sounds like bullcrap to me. Dude's just a despot.
