As an FYI - I've stopped using goodreads at least temporarily due to discomfort with it being owned by amazon. Right now I'm tracking my reading over at storygraph under the username firstiteration.

Just a note: I'm always surprised when people take text analysis tools at face value, as in my limited experience, they're far from perfect, especially when analyzing text that involves a lot of vernacular and nuance.

Learning that Gertrude Stein's writing style was not just about playing with form in the manner of abstract painting but also served to obscure her lesbian subject matter during a time when it wasn't acceptable to write about... how did I not know this or think of this before.

First chapter was long but pretty interesting. Glad the authors have stated that a lack of coding knowledge shouldn't impede my understanding of this.

I have so many thoughts, reading this book as a lesbian in 2020 and thinking about how if I lived a century ago I would have been classified as an invert, probably. It's so intense to consider. And of course, there are so many echoes of this history we can feel and see around us today.

I thought this book was gonna be a lot more about birds than it actually is. It's not a bad read, but I was looking forward to learning about birds.

Had to take a break from this because it's hard reading, but I'm back at it.
"Clickbait Thanatos" was a very good piece and definitely my favourite so far.

I'm learning so much from this book.

Note to self: look into Hume.

At first I found Soq kind of annoying but they've definitely grown on me.

Mary Renault is a good writer but I'm shocked by how deeply sexist this book is, especially considering a woman wrote it.

Cons of reading this and the first Anne book within a week and a half: all the messages I wrote to friends now sound overly formal and like Montgomery were possessing me.
