Also, I feel so robbed because we don’t get to see the relationship between Raoden and Sarene. They would’ve have been amazing together. (They’ll probably meet later in the book, but seeing that Raoden is dead, I don’t see their marriage to be actually a thing.)

I really see why people say to not read this book first. I’m struggling so much to concentrate. And I don’t understand why exactly. I am technically enjoying it, there’s just something in the writing that is failing to pull me in.

Maybe it’s because I’m reading this book mostly on the train, but I find it a little hard to get into this. I like all the characters and the world seems really cool, but the world building itself is not as great and effortless as I’m used to with Sanderson‘s books.

I don’t know what’s going on. All the characters are the same. Switching POVs in the middle of a sentence is not helping it.

I we could please not switch between POVs in the middle of a paragraph (or maybe even a sentence?), that would really help my understanding of what is going on. So far I’m not a fan

I‘m a little confused about all the blood. Are these supposed to be metaphors or did her father actually shoot her and is she cutting herself when she thinks about her grandma?
The migraines are very metaphorical, so maybe she is just very hurt by it, but no actual blood is leaving her body?

What a surprise that the evil guy is not quite as easy to blow up.

Everything is so convenient and I still don’t know what’s going on. Why are there always a million steps to do a thing?

Im reading the words but I just don’t understand what is happening.
They are going to this carnival, which happens once a year, but conveniently is tomorrow (because obviously Laila wouldn’t have more time). For this they need a mask to find out where it is. But once there, they need to pick out more masks? And somehow this will lead to the map?? It doesn’t make sense!!

Oh my god, I forgot about the jam. There is zero way anyone mistakes jam for blood!! Especially not strawberry and raspberry!! At least use a dark color!

Okay, I listend to the entire part 1 in a single sitting. I only stopped because I really needed to go to sleep. But what is this plot twist?? I have been thinking about how all this is going to work and I just don’t get it.

I really wish I would like the writing more

I think I like the story, but I hate the writing style. It makes it really hard to understand what is going on at all.

When I was like ten years old, my uncle gifted me a set of secret messages. I have learned one single thing from it. It is the easiest and mostly known way to have a secret alphabet. Whyyyy does it take everyone five seconds to figure out the most obscure connections, but with these messages they take ages to solve them?? Also how convenient that the language didn’t use a Cyrillic alphabet since we’re in Russia

Okay, we get it, Rufus or whatever his name is is bald. He has no hair. He was not blessed by genetics. He is jealous of everyone’s hair. He likes touching other people’s hair. And telling people that he has no hair. I GET IT! And I don’t care. Why do all the character‘s traits have to sooo quirky and soo obnoxius??

This seems better than the first book.
