I really wish I would like the writing more

I think I like the story, but I hate the writing style. It makes it really hard to understand what is going on at all.

Ah yes, I’m liking this. Grey and Harper should get together and just forget about Rhen.

When I was like ten years old, my uncle gifted me a set of secret messages. I have learned one single thing from it. It is the easiest and mostly known way to have a secret alphabet. Whyyyy does it take everyone five seconds to figure out the most obscure connections, but with these messages they take ages to solve them?? Also how convenient that the language didn’t use a Cyrillic alphabet since we’re in Russia

Okay, we get it, Rufus or whatever his name is is bald. He has no hair. He was not blessed by genetics. He is jealous of everyone’s hair. He likes touching other people’s hair. And telling people that he has no hair. I GET IT! And I don’t care. Why do all the character‘s traits have to sooo quirky and soo obnoxius??

This seems better than the first book.

So why did we need this part in Thule, except to get some lazy solutions to some of the less interesting problems?

Noo, I don’t like portals in different worlds that are the same. Why can’t dead characters just stay dead? (Or be properly resurrected aka Annabel)

I still don’t understand why we need all these things. What’s an Horus eye? Why do we need the bone watch? Why do we care about the Babel fragments? And what do they need the rings for? How did the fallen House fall?

I still don’t know why I should care.

Unsure, if I’ve ever actually finished this book before.
Please stop hurting my favorite characters (all of them)!
But also, I really can’t wait to see Julian‘s descent into madness, let’s hope they don’t clear the curse.

Unsure how I’ve only read half the book. It seems, like it could (and should) end now

I‘m liking this so much better than the first one so far. Maybe because I’m reading it in German, so the pretentious Britishness is not coming through quite as strongly?

Also what the hell is a Sphinx in this world?? Apparently you can fake one by putting on a mask? But they are also not just humans with a mask or a face? Why are they reptilian?? Aren’t Sphinxes lions with a human head?? Why do they need a mask then? Also what is up with the crocodile mask? Why does that take over when a bad guy is caught?? I’m sooo confused, give me world building!!

Please give me a reason to care about any of these people!

This book feels like I’m reading the second part of a series without having read the first. I kind of understand what is happening, but why should I care and also stop referencing things that happened in the past, if we don’t know about them.

I really want some more worldbuilding why are there so many characters? Why do they all have a POV? What is even going on? I’m very confused and I don’t know if I like this.
