concerned about the level of fatphobia + a couple of gay men that act like the worst gay stereotypes. trying to give benefit of the doubt b/c i am interested in many aspects of this but we'll see how it handles these things as the book continues

really struggling with this one and the hangup this author seems to have with butch lesbians in particular. the dialogue is also super cringy and the fact that the love interest is a member of the board for Archive of Our Own is another sign this book is not for me

treating myself to a reread cause my reading has been really shit lately

super weird that ppl warn for everything in this book EXCEPT the creepy incest kink masturbation scene that goes on way too long

2 things that have nagged at me - disparaging comments about "the loudest, shrillest trans girls constantly publishing dogmatic Trans 101 hot takes"

also a line about hysterectomies being "widely available... but even women who don't want children aren't exactly lining up to get them" which is simply not true and honestly offensive since women are often denied these procedures on shaky, misogynistic grounds

Halfway through & so far not that phased. What's bothering me is the constant misogyny & how Helen is written. So far there's been a ton of shitty comments about women & nothing specific about men. Helen has really been bothering me because she feels sort of like a manic pixie dream (nightmare?) girl in that she exists to tell main chara how smart he is while he acts surprised a woman reads anything besides Twilight.

didn't realize that this is set in a city 30 min from my hometown when I picked it up and that was quite a jolt to my system to find out. we didn't get a Starbucks or a chick-fil-a in my town until I was 16ish and so we would get it as a treat whenever we were in Rockwall for doctor/dentist appointments. it's currently making the story a lil bit creepier to read!!!

very tumblr writing tbh, and also a lot of hinting at some Great Horrible Thing that the main characters and the ultra cool girls do which im sure is going to be disappointing compared to the buildup
