Heroine is 19, hero 37. Could the hero stop thinking about her as a child and calling her a child! Especially during sexy times. It’s creepy.

Did dukes have to be elected to parliament in the 1800s?

I like the Georgian setting, and a couple great side characters (Patrick, Nana), but the main couple have spent probably two days together. More than halfway through the book and very little interaction between the two, lots on internal monologues while constantly separated.

This is so far tedious and bland, I hate to say. Heroine: He didn't say he loved me. I'm leaving town so he'll chase me. Hero: Should I go after her? So many conversations that are going round and round pointing to nothing.

I have an ARC for this, but I decided I'm not going to rate and review this one after reading the author's statement about doing extensive rewrites to address some of the racial issues. It also appears that the author has changed the title and a new release date more than six months out. I respect the author's position and want to read the version that the author truly intends for the public.

Almost a quarter of the book and all that's really happened is swooning over how dreamy the "hero" is--he orders really fancy lunches and can get a nice table, and plotting to "flirt" with the "H" because he left the "heroine" ten years prior after a summer of romance.She was 14.He was 24 that summer.Even for the time period (which is blurry) that's gross. All H talks about is how sweet his "little girl" was then.yuk

Finally they met at the 16% mark. I’m enjoying the dynamics with the children, but no h/H alone time yet, not even a conversation by themselves.

And the h/H still haven’t met. Second book in a row for me it’s taken forever for the couple to meet.

The h/H are finally together and we get page after page of the villain’s thoughts and a side story.

The finally meet for the third time, for about a page and a half, nothing more than stand greetings spoken between the h/H. The book is only a little over 200 pages. Now I’m determined to see how much page time the couple has. How can you build a solid romance in a short book if the characters don’t speak to or know each other?

26% in and the h/H have not yet met again since the brief first meeting at 15%.

The h/H just met for the first time at the 15 percent mark. I hope they spend some quality alone time soon.

There are no dialogue tags in this book. Interesting. I’m finding myself losing my place on who’s speaking when the dialogue goes on for several pages.

Everything is happening way too conveniently.

Devlin has a broken leg. How? Just randomly happened; no explanation that sets this whole plot on course? And there are abrupt shifts within paragraphs in the middle of chapters. One minute the brothers are discussion their plan to pose as the other, the next the fake preacher bro is giving a sermon. I feel like I missed pages!

Periwinkle, Pip, Poppy, Honey — It’s hard keeping up with which characters are humans and which are dogs! lol

This book started off in a really odd place, like I’ve missed half the story. They’ve already been alone together, and professed possibility of love in their separate internal monologues. No build up, no conflict. It’s all just very sweet.

I’m shelving this one for now. I’m finding it really slow. Reading the glowing reviews, I’m wondering what I’m missing!

Ugh! The “heroine” is infuriating! She does a stupid, invasive thing to the H and wants to blame him and have him come crawling back!

Finally, the H/h meet!

She totally just threw him under the bus! Robert’s been nothing but kind to Minnie, I was hoping she’d have the integrity to protect him, instead of using his goodness against him first chance. Don’t they have the same end game in their cause? Good book, but I don’t see what is drawing R to M. She’s treated him like the enemy since the beginning, and he’s just been sweet, patient, and kind of adorable.

I have been trying to get through this book for DAYS!! I don’t like the characters. I don’t want to give up so far in, but I’m not feeling it.

Doing my yearly re-read of A Week to be Wicked! Adore this book.

Finished Theresa Romain's novella "A Way to a Gentleman's Heart." I hate to say that I thought it was slow and the long descriptions of food a bit tedious. In a short novella, I want to read more about the characters than the cooking. More interesting side characters, like the sister.

This was a second chance romance. I'm curious about this Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies and wanted this further explored.

The constant chapter changes to plot the "downstairs" help is driving me nuts. Too much shift in focus from the main story.

Finished Tessa's novella. Needed to be fleshed out a lot. Full of her signature wit and humor, but the connection and sweetness between the characters was missing for me.

I forgot that this author is one of the Queens of the slow build-up. So much so that the hero and heroine have barely spent any time together! So, the "haste" part hasn't really come into play yet. ;)

This is getting so hard to want to finish! Charlotte is a twit. Her brand of humor is fine in small doses. I hope she does some growing up soon.

Meh. Not at all what I was expecting. No chemistry, weak plot, no investment in characters.
