This is a really fun read.

Interesting book so far - Grossman's writing is good. His descriptions of the environment (burning buildings, fields) is brilliant. But the idealistic descriptions of men is jarring, the soldier who maintains good cheer even in tough times, perhaps picking up a guitar and spontaneously breaking into song to rally the men, or the Commissar who lectures the men on the cultural inferiority of the fascists.
