There is so much superfluous back and forth in various conversations it’s hard to stay engaged.

I don’t know if I can finish this, I’m ready to start flipping tables. This guy turns everything back around onto the fem MC, even the fact she didn’t tell him about the abuse… he’s not her husband, but he’s not a “good” guy either.

All romance to some extent has a twist of fantasy, but this book has a gallon’s worth. If this guy said he had saved the world at some point from a world-ending asteroid I wouldn’t be surprised. He’s a “down to earth”, compassionate, world-renowned heart surgeon with his own practice and enough family money to found a hospital, while also being a “reformed” party boy and surfer. It’s. Too. Much.

We’re not supposed to like the fem MC, right? She’s so insanely stupid, unobservant, petulant, whiny, impulsive, and weak-willed I cannot even. She reminds me of a kitten standing up to a pit bull, hissing and spitting and trying to get her claws in, but when the pit bull has enough of her BS and goes after her, she runs and sulks, just to try and pounce again when his back’s turned. It’s ridiculous.

The fem MC is so whiny and kinda bitchy as a kid and an adult. I agree she has a right to be upset with the male MC, but the way she reacts to him makes it very difficult to sympathize. It’s just all too angsty. And what’s up with this “wishing on stars” hoey? It’s said too often in this book to be more than an angst-ridden cliché, plus wishes are for people who can’t change their circumstances. They can

It’s okay. I like the characters but the storytelling is very pedestrian. They walked over here and did this then had a BBQ then went to the store. I don’t think all the scenes have a purpose except “look how happy everyone is” and that’s getting old. I also don’t like how nearly every conversation is about the characters’ rough backgrounds. Yes, I know they were all homeless, do we need to rehash it???

I don’t think there’s really a plot. The story just hops from one dramatic event to another and there’s so much expositions by the background characters that I’ starting to get kinda annoyed. Why couldn’t all of the backstory have been explained already, or reveled in a way that doesn’t feel like items story time at the local preschool?

He’s a dick and the power of lady boners is so strong with the fem protag, she doesn’t even really care. He was very possessive and grabby for someone who had “just met” the fem protag and he corners/looms over her a fuck of a lot. Way too often for me to not get some pretty strong heebie jeebies. He’s too intense about a chick he’s “met” so recently and only even more recently screwed.

I’ve loved the other books in the series, but so far everyone talks to friggen much and it drags down the plot.

Blackwell is a try-hard.

Not sure I’m gonna finish this. The build up is too long and the characters ramble. Sorely tempted to skip to the end and see if it gets any better.

My blood pressure goes through the roof every time the husband is mentioned. He is gaslighting the hell out of everyone and they never voice their doubts to each other. My head is gonna explode.

I think a lot of the heroine’s troubles are self-imposed.

The fem protag reacts to the male protag like he’s abusive. She says she’s afraid of him all the time & she cowers when he’s angry. The male protag definitely has qualities from an abuser. He’s a dangerous sadist (don’t mean sexually) and his anger issues/jealousy is way outta control along with his creepy AF “addiction” (OBSESSION *cough cough*). I might know where this is going.

“Reads” (audiobook) like a cliché romance novel. No originality so far in characters or plot, and the female narrator for the version I’m listening to does the voice for the male protag a little weird and makes him sound like a discount romance novel hottie.

This book documents every sneeze every character makes. The plot progression is glacial.

Listening to the audiobook. When both MCs were talking about seeing the other again it was hard to tell what was flashback and what was ‘present’. Also a little too much inner monologuing and not enough story progression, but it’s still early.

The male protag is sooooooooo whhhhhiiiinnnnnyyyy. I’m tempted not to finish because right now the plot is flip flopping from him almost listening to the fem protag’s explanation to basically saying she’s the scum of the Earth. Pick one, I’m getting bored and annoyed and you won’t like me when I’m angry.

Male protag is so pushy about being intimate with fem protag when he knows what she just went through. Back. Off.

Not sure if I’m going to finish this. The fem protag is über judgy of the a guy she doesn’t even know. Even if her assumptions were true about them both growing up rich, why is she hating on other rich people? Isn’t that like hating on herself???

I don’t know if I’m going to continue reading this. The fem protag is a birch (misspelled on purpose). I don’t say that lightly. All she’s done since her fellow doctor (the doctor who’s the only other person who can help btw) arrived is spit assumptions about his profession like a cobra. Not charming at. all. Thought I liked the male protag until he ‘stomped off’ into the jungle like a 4 year old.

The shenanigans of Isabella and Thorpe are giving me high blood pressure....

Less than 1 and 1/2 hours in and I can’t stop asking myself why I should care about the relationship between the main characters. There’s nothing that has grabbed my attention about either of them so far.

I’m having a serious problem with finishing the 8 hr+ Romance audiobooks in my queue. They tend to stretch the story a little too long and my attention starts to wander. This is one of those books.

Cute book, but I’m less than 3 hours from the end and losing interest.

I almost cannot stand the female protagonist.
