The Beauty Myth
So far pretty good. The beginning was definitely a bit of a struggle to grasp but I’m definitely getting a better understanding of where the author is going? I’m kind of curious as to what inspired the author to write in detail what it means to share a meal with a young woman. The second paragraph on this page def reminded me of the first dinner scene in “Triangle of Sadness.”

Charisse is a feminist. Okay. I’m just like way too invested in this book more than I should be, but yes, Charisse is a feminist but she’s like a peripheral character who blurts out the importance of believing women, which is obvious. The event of Susanna’s pregnancy does not seem to do really much to Frida’s growth, but it’s definitely enough to solidify the death of her relationship with Gust.

There’s no buildup of Frida having been lobotomized, and yet… she has a lobotomy voice? 🧐

I’m at the point where I’m thinking that the phrase “men might find the pink lab coats erotic” to be really enlightening (re: color theory, maybe?). The question of womanhood totally depends on our notions of fatherhood. The page beforehand totally has like a full run-down of how problematic fathers can be. That was good.

So far, it’s going kinda slow. I find myself being bothered by the gerunds.

I feel like I’ve been hooked on this book longer than I should but I drew mockups of how to imagine this surrealist fiction.

Tbh this book is kind of a time waster because Ms. Wolf writes like she’s prevaricating in her hashing judgments. HOWEVER, I will power through this book to get my money’s worth. Honestly, it’s kind of ironic that I came across this book by way of Em Rata. Lord knows that girl is a hot mess.

It seems like she had a writer’s block, so she turned to Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice. 😬

The spookiness of this page seems to mirror the long hallways of Kubrick’s “The Shining” despite the inverted color schemes of the carpet. 🧐

It seems like Chapter 7 could be aptly titled “From Buddy Willard’s Perspective” and not Esther’s.

There is a certain kind of elegance in choosing the word “embankment” as opposed to “embarkment” or even “embarquement”. As a very simple layman of a yeoman, prefiero “concrete” or “slabs of ice” but damn. The word is embankment.🦾🫶🏼🤛🏽

A period is missing right before “I would never get rid of her again.” This is not a question of poetic license for a novel. I am sure Mrs. Plath would’ve approved.

Julie of the Wolves (Julie of the Wolves, #1)
Definitely imagined upon first read that the cloud of Lapland Longspurs is actually a floating cloud of twirling huskies, definitely not remotely in the same categorical species as 제비들. It ‘twas a laugh at myself for not even realizing that it would be cool but of course extremely painful to deny physics.

This has nothing to do with the book, but rather a question of why the word “caparison” over on dictionary.CON (hurrhurr) emphasizes in italics frankly a weird way of pronunciation. Why kuh-par-uh-son and not kah-parhish-tion as if placing a cape over a horse was a way of enhancing its apparition in an open parish of smelly dungs? aM iBeCoMiNg aN iGnAT like iGnAtIus?
