At this point his addiction to pills was so all consuming you kind of have to feel some kind of sympathy for the guy. It must have been like having a demon monkey grafted to your back, forever chewing the back of your skull.

And just like that he’s just erased any lingering belief I might had that he was a decent person. And ruined my opinion of Hank Azaria.

Turns out “Matty” here had/has some deeply screwed up behaviour towards women. A wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am attitude. A “now I’ve had you once I’ve lost interest” as he steam trains his way through a long line of unfortunate ladies. And he likes to name names. Kiss & tell. Maybe by the end of the book he’ll have grown up a bit in that department. 200 pages to go.

Well, that last chapter was an eye -opening amount of honesty. Who knew we were going to be informed about his *cough* *whisper- penis- * * cough* in quite so much detail.

Strangely compelling despite the writing style. I’m actually enjoying it. Thankfully- since I bought another of his books this year I’m yet to read.

This is the first book by Jorn Lier Horst I have read. So far, the writing is very dry. And I suspect not all of that dryness is able to be chalked up to the author’s original style being “lost in translation”.

Still trying to remember who’s who in the large cast of characters. Honestly, I’m not convinced it was necessary to follow so many in so much detail. Definitely bored at this point. Sadly.

If I wasn't aware of the autobiographical nature of these novels, I would seriously wonder about what kind of person could write the appallingly cavalier thoughts David has after he "disciplines" his son. Is this what the author decided his own father thought?

Which character to align my sympathies with? They're all ghastly or suspect individuals so far, with the exception of Patrick.
