Goddammit Ann Patchett 😭😭😭. It’s just so good. Finished in one day.

This translation, in addition to many errors in footnotes and the old timely language used, flat out promotes pluralism. If you want this in a Quran, that’s great. However any book which promotes its own bias (without doctrinal support) cannot be the best for use in academia. They allege 5:69 “argues for the continued validity of Judaism, Christianity and by extension other Divinely revealed religions…” sigh.

Finally a sim book that might actually be good?

This book is so freaking cozy. I can feel the cats through the pages. Also it is inspiring me to clean. This book is a VIBE.

Nothing has happened…. A closed door mystery involving writers that is all about the writers with none of the mystery…

Why is this book so long?

RiLey Sager - RL Stine… I get it…. Am I the only one looking at this pen name and his list of books under it and thinking they’re all an homage to rl stine? ESP goosebumps being ref here. But also just in general like adult rl stine book. The last one left was def very fear street.

Do not recommend this version of Q. Outdated and inconsistent translations. The idea of the footnoted tafsir is neat but the editors def make sure to present their own slant to specific issues (riba and intercession for example). And then sometimes just include incorrect or confusing footnotes that will only benefit those trying to attack the Quran. No wonder this seems to be popular with non Muslims and Christians.

I did not realize this was the 3rd in a series. I just saw it on the BOTM list for June and decided to listen to as an audiobook. It is def readable without the first 2 but there are some spoilers for the 1st two which I wish I hadn’t known yet. Ah well. I like it.

Dnf. Just didn’t feel like the Marissa Meyer I was used to. Also instant karma includes ppl getting in an accident? I guess I’m too much of a mom to want to see that happen to anyone even a-holes.

Such a good book. But had to take a break. It is depressing to realize the reality of the suffering going on around us. And how we are letting it happen.

Why is everyone hell bent on ruining Harry’s life? The media killed his mom and now won’t stop til they destroy him. Down with the monarchy. Put some in jail sure. But leave the actual humans trying to make a life alone.

Anyway so far this is very interesting. He doesn’t pull any punches with regards his relationship with his brother. Interested to get to the part about Afghanistan…

For me the perfect Spooky Season book is nonfiction and makes me think critically about “spooky” stuff. Lore podcast does this, The book Ghostland did that very well. This seems to be doing that.

Should I keep reading this book when the literal premise is “I saw Black women doing something beneficial and though us middle and upper class white ladies could copy them and benefit.” So far I’m not feeling this. Hoping there’s more to this than just straight up plagiarizing the struggle of Black women and calling it the new White women strategy

Who would have thought Matthew could get worse? Gah what have I done.

Much better as an audiobook. All the filler prose goes faster and stops tripping me up. But even the the metaphors get carried so far it’s like you’re being beat over the head.

Ughhhh. I need to stop reading YA books. But every time I get sucked back in with a good premise. Seems unique and promising. And then they hit you with that purple prose and mixed metaphors. Instagram poetry in book form. Gahhh. Idk if I'm gonna make it.

Trigger warning if you’re suicidal. I realize that Haig is kinda THE writer for depression/suicide. But honestly just 10 percent in and it’s not feeling that great. Even if the resolution wraps it up nicely. Didn’t realize what I was getting into going in based on the description.

Why am I reading this & why have we as a people given so much of our money to these producers of bread and circus? They live in a different world. I know I’m supposed to be learning business acumen or such and yeah some of his advice for leadership is good. It’s all good but it’s common sense as well. But all I’m learning is the rich are so high above us they can’t see us on the ground thru the clouds.

All of his easy come by success is really hard to listen to right now. There is a whole other level of people out there who are not suffering at all. It’s bizarre. Interesting read though since I don’t usually listen to business memoirs.

This book is too long. Well written with the right Regrncy tone. However there's none of the spirit of the original. Still going...
